Our Projects

NC Youth Impact

Through cultural education, leadership development, civic engagement, technology, and community service, our youth-led projects turn ideas into meaningful community impact.

Projects That Empower Young People to Lead

Learning by Doing. Leading With Purpose.

At NC Youth Impact, projects are more than one-time events. They are opportunities for students to discover their strengths, build practical skills, collaborate with community partners, and create positive change. Young people help research issues, develop ideas, organize volunteers, communicate with leaders, and guide programs from planning through completion.

What We Do

Our Main Projects

Cultural Education

AAPI Heritage Poster Competition & History Exhibition

Students explore Asian American and Pacific Islander history, identity, culture, and contributions through research and visual storytelling. Their original educational posters are shared at schools, libraries, universities, festivals, parks, and other public spaces across the Triangle.

Participants strengthen research, writing, design, communication, teamwork, and project-management skills. High school students can also lead exhibition sites and coordinate with community partners.

Leadership & Future Readiness

Youth Leadership & Future-Readiness Workshops

Interactive workshops connect students with experts, educators, public officials, and community leaders. Topics include artificial intelligence, education, youth safety, employment, economics, technology policy, cultural identity, resilience, and career planning.

Students research complex issues, develop recommendations, present their ideas, ask thoughtful questions, and participate in meaningful public dialogue.

Civic Engagement

Civic Engagement & Youth Advocacy

Students learn how decisions are made in schools, local communities, and government—and how to participate respectfully and effectively. They research public issues, evaluate information, organize outreach, prepare testimony, and communicate with elected officials.

Projects have included voter registration, youth policy discussions, advocacy for Lunar New Year recognition in school calendars, and student testimony before the North Carolina General Assembly.

Community Service

Community Care & Service Projects

Youth volunteers identify local needs and respond through teamwork, responsibility, and care. They organize donations, support collection and delivery, prepare materials, coordinate volunteers, and assist at major cultural and community events.

Programs such as the Holiday Donation Drive provide food, hygiene products, winter essentials, books, toys, and games to families across the Triangle while giving students hands-on service leadership experience.

The Youth Leadership Pathway

Youth-Led From Start to Finish

Every project is designed to give students meaningful responsibility. As participants gain experience, they can progress from contributor to project leader and eventually mentor other young people.

  • Research a community issue or historical topic
  • Develop educational materials and presentations
  • Work with schools, libraries, and community organizations
  • Coordinate volunteers and event logistics
  • Speak with experts, policymakers, and community leaders
  • Lead workshops, exhibitions, and public programs
  • Mentor younger participants
  • Reflect on results and improve future projects
