NC Youth Impact proudly hosted its first Asian American History Exhibition at Harold Ritter Park, presented in collaboration with the North Carolina Chinese American Society (NCCAS) Spring Festival. The event drew thousands of attendees from across the Triangle, creating a vibrant celebration of culture, community, and heritage.

As families enjoyed performances, food, and cultural activities, many paused to explore the exhibition’s historical posters—detailed displays highlighting key moments, struggles, and contributions of Asian Americans throughout U.S. history. Visitors of all ages stopped to read, reflect, and discuss the stories featured.

The exhibition’s impact was immediate and profound. Several attendees expressed deep emotion, with one community member sharing, “I’ve lived in the U.S. for 30 years, but I never knew many of these histories. I was moved to tears.” Comments like this underscored the importance of bringing these stories to light—many of which are rarely taught, yet central to understanding the Asian American experience.

Behind the scenes, NC Youth Impact co-founders Mason and Sunny worked tirelessly to set up the exhibition, ensuring each display was accessible, visually engaging, and welcoming to the community.

The Meaning Behind the Exhibition

This first exhibition represents more than an educational display—it is a milestone for the Asian community in the Triangle. It offers a meaningful opportunity for Asian Americans, especially youth, to:

  • See their history acknowledged and celebrated
  • Understand the long and complex journey of Asian Americans in the U.S.
  • Build pride in their heritage and identity
  • Foster unity and shared understanding across generations

By showcasing stories of resilience, achievement, and community strength, the exhibition helps bridge the past and present, reminding attendees that Asian American history is American history.

A Strong Start to AAPI Heritage Month

The success of this first exhibition sets a powerful tone for upcoming AAPI Heritage Month events. NC Youth Impact will continue its Asian American History Exhibition series with additional showings at Cary Regional Library on May 10 and Common Roots Event on May 17.
