This December, the Triangle community came together for the first-ever Holiday Donation Drive, a new initiative aimed at supporting families across Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill during the holiday season. Initiated by NC Youth Impact and joined by NCAAA, NCCBA, AYLUS, NCCAS (北卡大联盟), and Food Lounge NC RTP, the drive marked an important beginning—one the organizers hope will grow into a lasting tradition of community support in the years to come.

A New Beginning Rooted in Care

The inaugural Holiday Donation Drive was launched with a clear purpose: to support low-income families facing hardship by providing both essential resources and holiday joy. Though this was the first time the drive was held, it reflected a shared vision of building a stronger, more connected community through collective giving.

This year’s efforts focused on providing:

  • Basic necessities, including food, hygiene items, and winter essentials
  • Holiday gifts for children, such as toys, books, and games
  • Seasonal encouragement and relief for families in need

Collaboration Makes the Difference

The success of the drive was made possible through strong collaboration among organizing groups and community partners. In addition to the participating organizations, the initiative worked closely with:

  • Carolina Cares NC, which supported the coordination and distribution of holiday gifts for children
  • FOOD BANK OF CENTRAL & EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA, which partnered on food collection and distribution

Together, these partnerships ensured donations reached families efficiently and with care.

Community Generosity in Action

The response from the community exceeded expectations. Individuals, families, and local organizations donated generously, contributing a significant volume of items. The enthusiasm and participation demonstrated a strong desire within the community to support one another, laying a solid foundation for this donation drive to become an annual tradition.

One organizer shared, “This was our first time hosting the Holiday Donation Drive, and the community response has been incredibly encouraging. We hope this will become a tradition that continues to grow.”

Moments That Matter

The most meaningful impact was seen in the joyful reactions of children and families who received support. Many children were excited as they opened their holiday gifts, while parents expressed deep gratitude for the food and supplies that helped ease seasonal stress.

One parent shared, “Seeing my child’s excitement reminded us that kindness truly makes a difference. This support meant so much to our family.”

Another family added, “This help brought warmth and joy to our home during the holidays.”

Several families also shared photos capturing these moments—smiles, laughter, and holiday cheer that highlighted the heart of the initiative.

Empowering Youth Through Service

Special thanks go to the youth volunteers, whose energy and dedication were essential to the success of the drive. From organizing donations to supporting delivery efforts, their leadership and compassion played a key role.

A youth volunteer reflected, “Being part of the first Holiday Donation Drive showed me how powerful it is when our community comes together to help others.”

As the inaugural Holiday Donation Drive comes to a close, we are proud of what was accomplished and inspired by what lies ahead. Our heartfelt thanks go to NCAAA, NCCBA, AYLUS, NCCAS (北卡大联盟), Food Lounge NC RTP, our partner organizations, youth volunteers, and every community member who contributed. Together, we hope to build this initiative into a lasting tradition—one that brings hope, joy, and support to our community every holiday season.
